A Little History of Horrabridge
Horrabridge is a picturesque Devon village situated between Yelverton and Tavistock, on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park.
The village has a fascinating history, with its development closely connected to the River Walkham, which runs through the area. Water power from the river once supplied several local mills, dating back as far as the 14th century. These included traditional corn mills, with one later becoming a woollen factory during the 19th century.
The surrounding area also had a history of tin and copper mining, helping shape the local community and its development. The arrival of the railway in the 19th century further improved connections with the surrounding towns and villages.
Today, Horrabridge retains much of its traditional village character and remains a popular place for families, with its own school, local shops and community facilities.
It's lovely to see facilities such as the school hall continuing to serve the wider community.
